Jane Davenport (1751) and John Leigh of Swettenham

Jane Davenport (1751) was born at Siddington, Cheshire but was raised at Lower Withington. Her first child Daniel Davenport (1773 -1853) was born at Swettenham. Jane subsequently married John Leigh in 1779 at Marton and they raised six children around Marton, Swettenham; (1) Hannah Lea (1780) married John Nixon of Davenport about 1803 and had two sons born at Davenport - John Nixon(1807) and George Nixon (1810); Jane  Lea (bn abt 1782) married Mr Morey; (3) Ann Lea (1784); Mary Lea (1786) married Mr Middleton; James Lea(1789) and John Lea (1791). Jane's father - Peter Davenport (1727-1818) left a will (1818) which referred to Jane's children - Daniel Davenport, Hannah Nixon, Jane Morey and Mary Middleton.

Daniel Davenport (1753-1853) grew up at Lower Withington, where he spent most of his life. He was resident in Lower Withington in the 1841 census, and baptismal entries of his children referred to him as a weaver of Lower Withington. He married Sarah Hope in 1793 at Prestbury and they raised six children. By 1844, Daniel and Sarah had moved to Siddington. Sarah died in 1844 and Daniel died in 1853 - both were buried at Marton. Their youngest child Hannah Davenport (1807-76) married Mr Weatherby abt 1843 and they raised three children - John Weatherby (1844), Sarah Weatherby (1847) and Thomas Weatherby (1850). In the 1851 census, Hannah Weatherby was a shopkeeper in Simpsons Road Siddington and was caring for her father Daniel Davenport and her three children. John Weatherby (1844) married Elizabeth Pass about 1865 and they raised their family of one daughter - Elizabeth (1869) at Swettenham Heath. In the 1871 census, John was employed as a game keeper, but in later census returns he was a small farmer of 7 acres. Elizabeth Weatherby married John Bostock in 1891 at Swettenham.
