Joseph Davenport (1798- 1858) and Ellen (1802-1834) of Marton and Macclesfield

Joseph Davenport (1798-1858) was born at Marton where his father James Davenport settled and was a farmer. Joseph married Ellen about 1820 and raised their family at Marton until about 1826/7. They were in Eaton for the birth of a child in 1828, and then they settled in Congleton. Ellen died soon after the birth of their son Joseph in 1834, and was buried in Marton (1834). Joseph raised the family until his death in 1858 - he was buried at Marton next to Ellen.

Ann Davenport (1825-) married Robert Bailey about 1864 at Manchester and had one son James Henry Bailey born in 1866 at Manchester. They were living at Cheetham, Manchester for the 1871 census, but by 1881 they had moved to Albert Park, Broughton. Robert was a joiner. In the 1871 census, Ann's niece Ellen Davenport (1856) was staying with her, and in the 1891 census, Ann's sister Hannah Davenport (1820) from Macclesfield was staying with her. James Henry Bailey( 1866) married Esther Platt (1870) and their son Jack Davenport Bailey was the grandfather of Chris Bailey.

William Davenport (1832) married Martha Robinson (1837) in 1855 at Prestbury and raised three children at Somerford Booth. William was a farmer of 90 acres. By the 1881 census, William and his family had moved to Congleton where he was employed as an inn keeper in the 1881 census. Their son Peter Davenport (1859) was living at Kings Norton, Worcs as a gardener in the 1881 census.
