Thomas Davenport (1770 - aft 1829) of Somerford Booth & Congleton, Cheshire (grandson of Thomas Davenport bn abt 1687)
Thomas Davenport (1770- aft 1829) was born at Swetttenham, although he could have been raised at Lower Withington. He was the second youngest of 11 children, seven of whom grew to adult hood. He married about 1790 to Mary, who may have been about 7 years older than him. Thomas an Agricultural laborer raised 7 children from 1790 to 1806 at Somerford Booth, alongside his brother James. By the 1820's Thomas and his family had moved to Congleton, where Mary died in 1829. Thomas Davenport was recorded in the 1851 census as a widower and pauper farmer living at Canal Street Congleton. He subsequently died in 1855 age 85. Our research shows that Thomas and Mary had four children who raised families.
(1) Peter Davenport (1793-1861) an agricultural laborer who lived around Congleton and Newbold Astbury, married Margaret Wilkinson (1789-1833) in 1824 and raised one daughter Elizabeth (bn 1829). In the 1841 census, Margaret had died (1833) and Peter was living alone. In the 1851 census, Peter was living in the same residence with Elizabeth who had married John Rowe. In the 1861 census, Peter was a lodger at Newbold Astbury with Ann Wilkinson. Although Elizabeth Davenport and John Rowe had a daughter Mary Rowe bn 1850, we have no further record of this family.
(2) John Davenport (1796 - 1869) was an agricultural laborer of Marton, married Hannah Thorley (1802-1873) in 1822, and raised 14 children who seem to have all grew to adulthood.
(3) James Davenport (1803 - 1868) was an agricultural laborer of Davenport, married Susannah Clarke (1806- bef 1840) and raised 5 children.
(4) Daniel Davenport (1806 - 1893) was an agricultural laborer of Congleton and Marton, married Hannah Edge (1799- 1873) and raised 7 children, each of whom had raised families.
